Jessica did Browhaus’ Colour Tweak treatment on her eyebrows, and uses the Browhaus Bi-Liner in Bronze and the Browhaus Precision Eyeliner

Jessica is one busy girl — when she isn’t preoccupied with social media and clients, she’s preparing to move into her new home, which she helped to design, and we caught her just a few days before she was due to fly off for a holiday. She’s also in the midst of preparing for her new online label, which she plans to launch in the third quarter of the year. With a background in business and an interest in fashion and design, Jessica’s putting her knowledge to good use, and isn’t neglecting her personal style in the meantime. We find out a bit more about her beauty must-haves and what she’s up to now.

1. What is your usual look? What do you usually use?

I have eyelash extentions on, so I usually just go out with powder, blusher, and lipstick. On days when I’m not lazy, I’ll apply eyeliner, and on special occasions, I’ll have eyeshadow on, but it’s mostly neutral colours. Nothing really crazy because I’m not really very adventurous when it comes to makeup. I’m quite safe and boring!

2. How do you find ways to match your makeup to your look? Are there any pet peeves or no-nos that you have when it comes to make-up?

My makeup is almost similar to my dressing — it’s in very classic, neutral tones, so that even on adventurous days, when I decide to wear colourful or floral items, the makeup will still complement my outfit. I believe that you don’t really need outrageous makeup to make yourself look attractive. Simple makeup can still bring out your beauty, and your confidence will shine through instead of letting the makeup do the talking.

3. Do you think it’s important for women to be well-groomed, and why?

Yes, of course. You wouldn’t want to be seen with unruly eyebrows that are not shaped. It doesn’t look professional, and I find that it’s a kind of a courtesy to the people that you’re meeting to look presentable as well.

4. If you could only pick 1 type of make up must-have, what would it be and why?

I think it would be my eyelash extensions. Because even without makeup, nice lashes somehow just open up your eyes and make your whole face seem more awake, and charming. People always look at the eyes when they talk to each other!

5. Could you tell us about what you’re working on right now, or a personal project that you would love to undertake?

I wish I could help out at some charity organisations. I actually like kids a lot, but I find that it’s not easy for organisations to trust you and look after or interact with kids. To go to an orphanage, for example, you need to go through a lot of processes and fill up forms to prove that you’re sincere or trustworthy enough, because there are a lot complications involved with kids. It’s not easy to get approved.

6. What is important for you to have at work, both in a material and emotional/psychological sense?

In a more emotional sense, you need to have positive thinking and a good attitude. Always be very hardworking, and willing to learn; that’s what I learnt from my previous job as well. Especially when you’re doing customer service, you must always be polite, and mind what you say. Even when you’re very annoyed and angry, you know that you shouldn’t go across the line because people will not patronise you again.

7. What is your idea of the CBD and Shenton Way? Do you think a corporate mindset and creativity can go hand in hand?

I’ve always thought that the CBD area and Shenton Way were more strict, firm and formal, and people usually wear more knee-length dresses and skirts with shirts. I think we can mix creativity with formal dress, but it cannot be too adventurous as well, because we still need to dress accordingly to the office guidelines.

8. What are some items in your wardrobe/on your dresser that you can’t live without?

My wardrobe actually consists of a lot of basic items — a lot of tank tops, or short, midi, and long dresses. They’re all all in basic colours; these are the things that I couldn’t bear to give or throw away because I know they’ll come in handy again some day. My style has actually evolved over the years; I used to wear a lot of floral items but I realised that they go out of trend very quickly, whereas basic items are always in style. You can spend more on basic pieces because they’ll always stay with you.
